One of our important on-going major initiatives has been to facilitate the translation, publication, and distribution of introductory free market books throughout the world.
Liberty International President Ken Schoolland’s popular and humorous fable The Adventures of Jonathan Gullible: A Free Market Odyssey has been translated into 50 languages.
Dr. Mary Ruwart, our board chairman, recently issued the fourth edition of her Amazon best-seller Healing Our World, and which has now been translated into eight languages. Liberty International will also update the content and topics of our previous outreach issue papers, of which we produced and distributed over 3 million print copies across the U.S. in pre-internet days.
The Adventures of Jonathon Gullible
The Adventures of Jonathan Gullible tells the story of a boy who becomes shipwrecked on an unfamiliar island after being swept out to sea in a storm. Having previously lived in a relatively free society, in this new strange land he experiences culture shock as he learns of bewildering laws and traditions of the island’s inhabitants. The story highlights the absurdities of the laws, the controls imposed on people’s lives, and the economic drawbacks of these laws.
The laws highlighted are recognizable as common to many countries throughout the world. As the story unfolds, the part individuals in society play in political decision-making and personal responsibility is introduced for discussion.
The book has now been translated into 48 languages! Click here for a full list.
Healing our World
Dr. Ruwart’s international best-selling book integrates the morality of Christianity, the ethical compassion of the liberal, the self-responsibility of New Age spirituality, and the practicality of real world politics to take the libertarian ideal to the next level.
The third, greatly expanded, 2003 edition of her book, Healing Our World, was tied with Harry Potter as FreeMarket.net’s Best Book of Year 2003. Healing was the 2008 Freedom Book Club of the Year, edging out Dr. Ron Paul’s The Revolution: A Manifesto. Healing was also given the Lysander Spooner Book of the Year Award in 2012.
